Summer Dog Clothes
Summer dog clothes are not just about style; they shield thin-coated and sun-sensitive dogs from UV exposure and provide light coverage for breeds prone to skin sensitivity during outdoor time. Chocolate Peanut expanded into summer dog clothes in 2021, adding warm-weather pieces to a catalog that began entirely in cold-weather knits. Our summer dog clothes include lightweight cotton pullovers, breathable T-shirts, and bandanas in seasonal prints, all handmade and each one of a kind.

What Categories of Summer Dog Clothes Do We Make?
Our summer dog clothes fall into three categories: soft tops for cooler mornings, T-shirts for dogs who overheat easily, and rotating bandana designs for everyday wear. A compression fabric with UV shielding is available in select styles, particularly useful for fair-skinned dogs who spend extended time in direct sun. Every option in the lineup is listed on our online dog clothing store. All seasons sit together for easy comparison on our handmade dog apparel. Lightweight shirts for warm-weather protection are broken out in our dog T-shirts.

Every one of our summer dog clothes was made by the same hands that built the cold-weather range, with the same attention to fit and one-of-a-kind construction throughout. Ordering early is recommended because summer batches sell through without restock and do not return in identical form. You can learn more about our story before you purchase. Those who want to plan for the full year can see the complete cold-weather selection in our winter dog clothes. Pick a warm-weather piece for your dog before the current stock is gone and order now.

MY FAVORITE SWEATER: The “My Favorite Sweater” has been a signature product since 2008, and is one of the most comfortable sweaters on the market. In 2008, a knitter I had met at a yarn shop in Connecticut who lived in Maine worked with me and helped my sweater design become a reality—a knitted dog sweater inspired by the classic traditional crew sweater. I was staring at one of my old cotton crews thinking that there’s a dog sweater in that. Not seeing anything I had envisioned anywhere, I decided to create a version for dogs. She and I went over several iterations until I was happy with the results. The first sweater prototype was sold later that year. Eventually my knitter retired after I had moved to Rhode Island in 2010. I revamped the site and offered scarves and t-shirts, while looking for someone to continue knitting the sweater. In 2018, I luckily found a skilled knitter in Massachusetts who later moved to Connecticut. Together we reworked the sweater for a better fit, an expanded color palette, and a wider selection of yarns.
HOODIES AND PULLOVERS: In 2021, hoodies and pullovers (turtlenecks) were introduced. The tie-dyed hoodie was the first hoodie to be introduced into the expanded collection of apparel. Batches are hand-dyed and one-of-a-kind. More hoodie designs were added with fun prints, cozy flannels, and baseball-style raglan shirts. Pullovers were added to the collection, made from a various assortmant of fabrics including a super soft French terry, comfy lightweight cotton, sherpa fleece, lush terry cloth, super-soft knits, and a compression material with UV protection.
